Alfie is off on his new adventure! He's moved in to his new home with an adoring family and is being trained to be a school support dog for students in a Queensland State High School. Alfie is one of our gorgeous Ridgy Didge Cobberdog pups from Moon and Ringo, born on September 1 this year.
The high school team of student support staff, comprising guidance officers, youth worker and chaplain, compiled a list of qualities for their school support dog. Most importantly, he had to be calm and gentle natured, but also confident.
"The overwhelming comments from other schools (who have introduced support dogs) so far, have been that getting a school dog was the best thing they have ever done."
"We have students who have suffered bereavements, or suffer with anxiety and teenagers sometimes just need a place to go for 'time out'. We see the dog...will sit and be patted and provide solace and most importantly not be judgemental. Students will also be encouraged to take the dog for a walk around the oval when they feel a little stressed and to play with him."
Alfie will always have supervision at school and will go home to his forever family each night. The whole school is excited to be involved with this new venture! The Woodworking Department has built Alfie a lovely kennel and the Art Department has created a beautiful name plate for his kennel!
Australian Cobberdogs are commonly used as 'Therapy Dogs' and 'Assistance Dogs'. They may assist people with epilepsy, autism, anxiety, and so much more. Cobberdogs' low-shedding coats make them perfect for indoors, and people with allergies.
The next litter for Ridgy Didge will be January 2018, and we have already taken bookings for puppies due to be born next year. Our commitment to responsible breeding means there are limited litter numbers, so if you would like to adopt a Ridgy Didge Australian Cobberdogs in 2018, please submit an Adoption Form early so you will be on our waitlist and there's less chance of you being disappointed.
